Fifth day, Monday 18 October 2010

Although I did not get into bed until 5.30 am, I did not get most of the tasks listed done.
I got lost of other useful stuff don on UEL Plus and replied to student emails as well as a PhD enquiry from a promising source.
Got up late.
Voice was fully back but throat was sorer than yesterday.
I really wanted to stay home to 'rest and recover' but to do so would have let work pile up for later.
At work, there were more registrations to process and the EDUCOM ED3000 (the independent research module) issues to deal with.
Who is going to guide and support the EDUCOM students doing the module?
Have finally got my hands on the project proposals so that I can give students feedback on their proposals and encourage them to produce dissertations that will reflect their degree title and be useful to their carers.
Just managed to get the programme for EDED1010 ready before the Academic Advice and Guidance lecture which precedes the ED1010 Children in Their Social Contexts lecture at 6 pm.
Toms Power Point for the lecture was already in UEL Plus but I had not finished preparing the one sheet programme that I usually produce for each lecture.
Perhaps I should start counting how many emails have been I have received in a day and how many were sent. Although this would not  be any measure of the work done.
I made some corrections to AEL applications for Tuesday's panel meeting but did not finish and the applications are still not fully ready.
Tom did the ED1010 lecture so my role was just to introduce the session.
Picked Niilante up on the way home and dropped off other Spartans before getting home.
At home I finished work on the worksheet for the ED1015 visit to the Museum of London in Docklands the next day.
Niilante finished off making the shepherd's pie that I started in the morning and that he had continued in the afternoon.  It was very delicious and eating it eased the soreness of my throat.  I ate to much.
Heating has still not been fixed.
Went to bed with a hot water bottle.

Fourth day, Sunday 17 October 2010

Boiler packed up yesterday but I did not feel cold when I got up.
The sun eventually came out and it was quite warm.
Before the sun came out there was an interesting sky that made me go out to take a photo.  I was surprised at how warm it was.
Sorted out a pile of papers from last year and found some useful documents for various tasks I am currently working on.
Had a brunch cooked by Niilante and Anita then slept off for a while.
Anita showed us the video she has been working on - very impressive.
Thanks to Niilante and Anita for taking Dr Amira the Oyster card and directions to where she will be going tomorrow.
Now to work even though it is Sunday.  I am hoping to:
  • write up notes from the AFFORD strategic review in June even though I know I have already done this once already (the file must be on the flash I was using that got spoilt);
  • prepare worksheet for ED1015's visit to Museum of London in Docklands;
  • do programme for ED1010 tomorrow and draw up schedule for the rest of the semester;
  • do preparation for ED3022,
  • write to study groups with information about their chosen project work;
  • do corrections to minutes from last Programme Committee Meeting;
  • set up Module Guide tests for ED1010 and ED3022 if UEL Plus is still up and running ....  and more

Third day, Saturday 16 October 2010

Left homeat 6.10 for Heathrow airport to pick up Dr Amira Davis.
We drove around quite a bit looking for an appropriate hotel.
Finally got somewhere in Crystal Palace that we were happy with.
Got home with Really bad flu.
I was sneezing, running nose, very sore throat and no voice.
Probably talked too much.
Niilante took good care of me making honey and lemon and going out to get Lemsip for me.
Missed Open Day at UEL.
Lemsip was not as magic a bullet as hoped and so I also missed the Unsung Nigerian Women's Award at well : - (
Managed to get some more prep done for teaching next week.

Second Day, Friday 15 October 2010

Managed to have a long conversation with Ayo after the usual call to Mum.
Working day started with more blue screen crashes including one resulting in a loss of data : - (.
Problem seems to be the Window's Vista and / or Kapersky Internet Security.
Backed up ready for changing operating system.
Emails read, sent or action taken in response.
Session planning for teaching ED1010 and ED1015
By bike to Peckham but getting back was tough and had to rest several times on Friern Road.
Cold / flu is maturing.  Feeling quite weak and tired.
